BREAKING NEWS - Dr. Monifa B. McKnight has been named the new superintendent of MCPS. McKnight has made history by becoming the first woman and second African-American to hold this position. McKnight currently serves as interim superintendent and will assume the permanent role on July 1, contingent upon contract negotiations and approval by the state superintendent of schools. The Board voted unanimously to appoint McKnight after a months-long, national superintendent search. The search involved public feedback through three forums, a districtwide survey and a series of focus groups and individual interviews.
