This Monday, rappers Young Thug and Gunna were taken into custody by Atlanta police. Young Thug, whose real name is Jeffery Lamar Williams, and Gunna, Sergio Giavanni Kitchens, were among 28 people listed in an 88 page document listing charges from hijacking a vehicle to conspiring with criminal gangs.
Gunna reportedly surrendered a day after Young Thug and members of his self-led YSL gang were arrested. As one of three Young Slime Life founders, a gang presumed to be a part of the Bloods, prosecutors plan to use part of Thug's music and social media posts as evidence,
Rolling Stone shows ("Lyrics from nine songs are described as 'an overt act in furtherance of the conspiracy' in the massive indictment in which the rapper was charged"). “We expect that in coming days weeks and months that we will bring RICO indictments against gang members, even top level gang members, to make sure that we rid them from our society," says Fani Willis, who is Fulton County's District Attorney. An excerpt from a CNN article states, "lyrics from the rapper’s popular songs – including “Slime Sh*t,” “Original Slime Sh*t,” and “Anybody” – were used as examples of “overt acts,” some of which constitute racketeering. Prosecutors allege that Young Thug, real name Jeffery Williams, founded the gang Young Slime Life in late 2012 and was a key figure in various YSL activities. Rapper Gunna, real name Sergio Giovanni Kitchens, is also charged in the document. Williams was arrested at his home in Atlanta on Monday, police said."
