Capitals get burned in the final minute for a 5-4 loss

Alex Ovechkin was back on the ice, but fellow all-star Tom Wilson appeared set to be the hero for Washington, tying a wild game against the Columbus Blue Jackets with just over two minutes left and the Capitals’ goalie on the bench. But the Blue Jackets’ Boone Jenner wiped those smiles away with a backhanded game-winner with 42.4 seconds remaining in the Capitals’ 5-4 loss at Capital One Arena.

Washington Capitals entered Tuesday’s game, its first after the all-star break, looking to course-correct after an inconsistent stretch marred by special teams woes and questions in net. Instead, the Capitals again blew a multigoal lead and pulled their starting goalie en route to a lackluster loss. They have dropped four of their past six games.
