Tilden News Network had an exclusive interview with Tilden math teacher Ms. Schmidt via email. She answered questions from her students and Tilden schoolers.
The first question from her IM 7th-grade students was the reaction to 'Many people think IM is easy'. She answered that "Students say IM is easy, but don’t always do well on assessments – we’re still giving lots of retakes for IM. Progress checks are showing that students who do well on weekly quizzes don’t always remember the material when they take larger tests like MAP-M or progress checks." Student who asks this question reacts "I understand almost everything in class, and I will get a good score in progress-check!"...
The second question is from her Algebra students, his question was 'Why does Algebra have too much homework?'. Ms. Schmidt responded that "Algebra students need to understand that in high school math classes, it’s normal to have homework 5 days a week. I know students in high school are getting more homework than we’re giving to middle school algebra students."
The final question is about mask mandate. MCPS announced to remove the mask mandates, which means students/parents can choose to wear a mask or not. Tilden News Network asked her "What do you do if MCPS removes mask mandates?" a day before MCPS announce to remove mask mandates. She responded that "I think I’ll probably wear my mask in large classes and crowded hallways, but maybe take it off at lunch and in small classes." Ms. Schmidt's student reacts that some students in my math class said wearing a mask is communism, he said the new mask guidelines could increase 'political/religious conflict' and 'bullying' in school.
