Tilden's Reaction to the 'Deadly School Shooting'

On Tuesday afternoon, a mass shooting happened at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. Tilden News Network now understands that 21 people including students and teachers were killed (19 students and 2 adults), and the shooter is an 18-year-old man. In addition, the police said he is deceased.

Tilden Middle School's US & Maryland flags are at half-mast as a mark of respect for the victims. Tilden News Network had an exclusive interview with Tilden MS security, Mr. Greene, on Wednesday afternoon, and the video is available in the video section of this website. All Tilden students and teachers can access TNN's video page by putting in a password.

Democratic Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut delivered an emotional call to action on the Senate floor, "Our kids are living in fear every single time they set foot in a classroom because they think they're going to be next. What are we doing? Why do you spend all this time running for the United States Senate? Why do you go through all the hassle of getting this job — of putting yourself in a position of authority — if your answer is that as the slaughter increases, as our kids run for their lives, we do nothing."

Police said that the shooter had two AR15-style rifles, and an image of the guns was posted on Instagram days before the shooting. There have so far been at least 212 mass shootings in 2022, according to the nonprofit organization Gun Violence Archive.

US President Joe Biden remarked from the White House in the wake of the shooting at an elementary school in Texas, the president cited large numbers of school shootings in recent years. “I am sick and tired of it," he said. "We have to act.”

MCPS's Reaction to Community

"On behalf of the Montgomery County Board of Education and Montgomery County Public Schools, we mourn the senseless and tragic loss of life at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. Violence in any form is intolerable. Violence against children and those who are called to teach, serve and protect them, in the place they are meant to be the [safest], is unbearable. Tonight we hold our children extra close as we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to ending senseless gun violence and to providing for the safety, security, and wellbeing of our entire school community. Together we are committed to the safety and well-being of all students and staff. Each of us has a role to play in ending the violence that has again, stolen our peace, and shortened young and innocent lives too soon."
