During the press conference with Japanese prime minister Kishida, President Biden said the US would respond with force if China attacked Taiwan.

President Biden stated, “We agree with the One [Chinese] policy. We signed on to it, and all the attendant agreements made from there, but the idea that it can be taken by force, just taken by force, is (just not) appropriate,”

The United States is an ally of Taiwan and they don't want China to forcibly try to take control of the island. President Biden’s strong warning was made right on China’s doorstep during his first trip to Asia as President of the United States. The visit is aimed at uniting allies and partners to counter China’s rising influence.
