Capitals at Penguins

The Capitals started out their weekend by playing in Pittsburgh. The Capitals won 6-3, a great way to start off their weekend.

Period 1: 2-3.

The game started off with a bang, as both teams had acquired a goal just after the one-minute mark. Bryan Rust scored first in the game for the Pens, due to a failed zone exit by the Caps. Then about 16 seconds later, Marcus Johansson put the puck in the back of the Penguins net making it 1-1. Dimitry Orlov gave the Caps the lead later in the period with a well placed slapshot, making it 2-1. Towards the end of the period, the Penguins added two goals to the scoreboard. They came from Jeff Carter followed by Brian Boyle, making it 2-3 at the sound of the siren.

Period 2: 3-3.

Not as eventful as the first, with the only goal coming the Capitals Alex Ovechkin on a 5 on 3.

Period 3: 6-3 (Final).

It was all Caps coming into the third period. Tom Wilson gave the Caps the go ahead goal a little pass halfway in the period, Evgeny Kuznetsov getting a short handed goal, and Martin Fehevary finishing the Penguins off with the empty netter. Final score: 6-3 Capitals.

Bruins at Capitals

Despite around 18 hours between games, the Capitals managed to beat the Bruins 2-4 on home ice.

Period 1: 0-0.

First period was fairly uneventful, except for an overturned goal by Tent Frederic. Video review determined he kicked the puck into the net.

Period 2: 2-2.

John Carlson got the game's opening goal for the Caps with a slap shot over goaltender Ullmark's glove. The Bruins only took a few minutes to strike back with a goal from Curtis Lazar assisted by Nick Foligno, making it 1 a piece. A minute later, Bruins scored again with a shot by Erik Haula due to a poor turnover by the Caps. At around the 15 minute mark Tom Wilson put in a loose puck originally shot by Lars Eller, making it 2-2.

Period 3: 2-4 (Final).

Lars Eller put the Caps ahead with around 13 minutes to go with an assist from Jensen. And Alex Ovechkin scored an empty netter with just two seconds left on the game clock.
