Capitals Offseason Checklist

So here we are, starting to talk about the capital's offseason. Just two weeks ago we were discussing the playoffs, ok let's get into our topic.

Capitals Checklist for the offseason 2022:

We will look one by one in each post

The first one:

  1. Find a veteran or experienced backup goaltender

This topic has been widely discussed in the NHL. Multiple Nhl Insiders and people talk about this. Both goalies Ilya Samsonov and Vitek Vanecek had got stretches in the season, but couldn't be hot for an extended period of time, no actual number 1 for Washington. Based on the stats though Vancek is better, he has a 908 save percentage and 2.67 goals against. Samsonov on the other hand has an 897 save percentage and 3.02 goals against. Let me explain, the save percentage above 900 is good, below terrible. Goals against between about 1 and 2.30 or 2.40. So both arent great, but ok for Vitek and normal to bad for Samsonov. But Samsonov has more talent. One needs to find consistency and Washington needs to get an experienced backup to step up and teach one of the young goalies, plus cover for their mistakes. Some options via free agency and trading are Fleury, but I doubt he will want to come to Washington because of rivalry with penguins, Darcy Kuemper, Semyon Varlamov, and the well know Braden Holtby who won DC their first-ever Stanley cup.
