China's major city, Shanghai, and other Chinese cities are under a very restricted lockdown and have been since late March because of the Chinese government's 'zero-covid policy'. China's zero-covid system is very poorly managed and residents are frequently unable to have access to basic necessities such as food, medications, and medical care. The rapid onset of the omicron variant is in Asian countries and cities which include China and South Korea.
In the United States, the covid cases are rising nationally but the number of death and ICU patients are low. Multiple CDC directors say that the covid-19 vaccine is helping keep death rates and ICU hospitalizations low.
